Two salesmen whose careers have evaporated due to the digital age sell their way into a coveted internship at Google, where they must compete with a group of young techno geeks for a shot at employment.
This film has arguably the biggest product placement plug of all time. And, despite knowing that I was fascinated by the insiders tour of Google and it kept me watching until the comedy picked up and I began to enjoy the film immensely. The critics hated it btw but for me it was impossible not to be drawn to the geek mothership that is Google HQ.
Our boys quickly fall in with the geek losers that no one else wants in their team and those losers are sceptical about getting landed with these two old guys. As well as the two leads this character based comedy offers stand out performances from Dylan O'Brien (Maze Runner), Aasif Mandvi (Ruby Sparks), Max Minghella (Social Network), Tiya Sircar (Friends with Benefits) and Josh Gad (Frozen). It would be near impossible not to connect with these characters.
The film has a fresh feel to it and the geek content was high enough to keep me entertained while the script also offers snappy dialogue and interesting sub plots. But the overall strong message is that there are advantages to being a bit older, especially if you're willing to learn new things.
Overall this is a fun film that is engaging and interesting and it's on my play list.
